I have to mention some pitfalls I encountered: don't use those free niche VPNs. On the first day, I tried a free tool, connected successfully, but Amap crashed halfway through loading, and the location drifted to Spain, almost leading me to the port. Also, make sure to choose a node specifically optimized for returning to China; regular international nodes won't work because Amap's geo-detection checks if you're on a domestic IP segment, not just any overseas node.
Another detail: if you're an Android user, don't just swipe Amap away in the background and restart it. It's better to clear Amap's cache in your phone settings first to avoid interference from residual overseas IP detection records. Apple users can just restart the app, as the system cache mechanism is cleaner.
Some might ask, why not use Google Maps? I tried it, but most local addresses are labeled in French or Arabic, and searching with Chinese place names yields nothing. Plus, navigation prompts are all in English, which is really stressful if you don't speak French or Arabic. The advantage of Amap is its full Chinese interface—you can even find local Chinese restaurants and supermarkets, which is incredibly useful in North Africa.
One last thing: if you're a Chinese person staying in Morocco long-term, you can use the same method to unlock domestic video and music platforms. After all, sometimes you just want to watch a domestic variety show to ease homesickness.
